Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit

Top Kit

You'll want a Top Kit if:

There is less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.

There's a heated grip wire that comes out of the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.

You'll want a Bottom Kit if:

There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.

There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.

Steps to determine fitment

Step 1: Check for adequate spacing for the ATLAS between the throttle housing and the grip flange.

All you need is a gap of 2.5 mm or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 thick bank cards wide. If you need more space than this, you can most likely pull back your grip flange to gain the room needed. Please play the video under the section "Will it for your motorcycle" and scroll to 33 seconds. This will show you how to pull the grip flange back.

Step 2: Use our 'Make, Model and Year' search tool to locate your motorcycle. The search tool will show you exactly which unit to purchase. If you can't find your motorcycle, please click the Contact Us button below. We are happy to help you make this decision.

Model Specific Notes

Description1 On models with factory heated grips, riders should check their specific bike. The gap between the throttle housing and the grip flange may be too narrow on some bikes, but others may have enough space (about 3 mm).
Description2 CTX 700 bikes with OEM heated grips should order the Top Kit. CTX 700 bikes that don't have OEM heated grips can choose either the Top Kit or Bottom Kit.
Description3 CTX 1300 / Deluxe bikes with OEM heated grips should order the Top Kit. CTX 1300 / Deluxe bikes that don't have OEM heated grips can choose either the Top Kit or Bottom Kit.
Description4 On models with chrome grip flanges, the chrome flange may need to be pulled back towards the bar end to create enough space to mount the ATLAS.
Description5 Riders should check their specific bike for proper clearance between the fuel tank and the gap between the throttle housing and grip flange with the handebars at a full right turn before ordering the Bottom Kit.
Description6 ATLAS has to press against the handlebar cover to function. The Bottom Kit is incompatible due to a large uneven seam on bottom of handlebar cover. Top Kit may function, however handlebar cover tapers away from the ATLAS and may result in poor friction.

Friction Pads

Everything you need to know about using the friction pads with the ATLAS Throttle Lock.

Friction Pads are required.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last 60,000 miles or more as long as you choose the right pad for your bike. You will also preserve your pad by avoiding any contact with your throttle housing’s sharp seam. This is explained in our installation instructions.
Which friction pad should you use?
The friction pads come in 4 different thicknesses. You will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation videos and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best.
Are the friction pads adjustable?
Yes, they are! The pegs at the end of the friction pads have 2 equally spaced notches which can be cut off to move the friction pad away from the throttle housing’s curved ridge. This is explained in our installation instructions.

not plug and play

not plug and play BUT it never is!!!! fairly straightforward and when I did hit a roadblock Josh Hopkins (tech support) did a 100% GREAT job of getting me sorted. '21 HONDA CB500x upper model that needed the handgrip flange pulled back and adjusted to fit before there was enough clearance for the mechanism to fit. Now for some nice weather to give 'er a try! initially it works great, but a road trip is in order now!!!!! any excuse, right?

“Cruise control” to the max!

Never had cruise control on any of my bikes but from what I am used to in cars, the ATLAS Throttle Lock is much more versatile and user friendly. My commute to work doesn’t even include freeway or long straight stretches and I still love using the ATLAS. I honestly think it’s not only the convenience but also a tool for “feeling” your bike and controlling it without hands and body positioning/weight only. (of course be safe and obey local rules and traffic rules 😀)

Will put one on all of my bikes from now on!
